Our History

Our History

December 1981.It's the date when born the Corale Bonagiunta from San Ginesio, musical association with headquarter in San Ginesio (MC), an ancient and noble Municipality of Marche, which lies on a hill (690 meters above sea level) on the slopes of centrals Appennines looks towards Ancona, the Conero's coast and the Adriatic sea.

Its name derives from Giulio Bonagiunta, musician of San Ginesio of the second half of the sixteenth century, whom in Loreto and Venice carried out his manifold activities as a singer, organist, composer, music publisher to end his life as a Kapellmeister in Parma, at the court of Ottavio Farnese. After a hard work of research, the Chorale has managed to find the two books containing 14 songs written by Bonagiunta, preserved in the "British Library" in London and at the "Österreichische National Library" in Vienna. The desire to shed light on the figure of Bonagiunta and his compositions led to the publication of the book "Giulio Bonagiunta from San Ginesio- his time, his music", with the collaboration of eminent scholars. The publication, with biographical events, illustrates in detail the features musical and artistic of Giulio Bonagiunta and presents his original compositions, transcribed in modern music by the old master Emiliano Finucci. The publication of the book had to be accompanied by the performance of Bonagiunta's music, according to the absolute respect of the musical techniques of the sixteenth century. After presenting the songs of the musician live for the first time in San Ginesio on 1st June 2003 on the occasion of the presentation of the book dedicated to him, the choristers have performed the songs in the same Venice, in the environment that had views arise in the distant sixteenth century, during two lucky tours performed in November 2003 and in May 2004. The choir, under direction of Emiliano Finucci and with the accompaniment of instrumental group "Aquila Altera", have recorded the CD "Giulio Bonagiunta from San Ginesio- Canzon Napolitane" containing all compositions of Bonagiunta, which was officially presented on the 20th November 2005 during the sixth edition of the National Review Poly "Giulio Tallè". After the discovery of his music and the publication of the book dedicated to him, was thus achieved the third of the goals that the Corale Bonagiunta set itself as part of the project aimed to discover, study, perform and make known the musician from which takes the name: Giulio Bonagiunta from San Ginesio "leading figure in the history of the music press of the sixteenth century and one of the most interesting music of the Italian Renaissance, and innovative composer... whose production represented a turning point in the evolution of this kind of dialectical songs for three voices.

Since its foundation, the Chorale has managed to collect more than 950 between concerts and public performances, participating in exhibitions, meetings and polyphonic music festivals, but it is the vocation of international trade which characterizes and distinguishes , from 1984 onwards, the activity most significant association.

While, in fact, on the one hand promotes and implements a long series of cultural exchanges hosting in San Ginesio Choirs from all over Europe, Africa, Asia and America, the other hand becomes the protagonist of countless concert tours who consecrate success in Germany (1984 -1996 - 2005 - 2006), Spain (1985 -1997 - 2000 - 2003 - 2007), Greece (1986), France (1987), Netherlands (1987), USA (1988), Hungary (1988), Russia (1989), Sweden (1990), Austria (1991 - 2003 - 2004), Great Britain (1991), Slovenia (1992-2003 August and December, 2006, 2008), Rep. Czech (1992), Switzerland (1995).

In Italy the most important artistic achievements are them since 1989, when it was invited to sing in the Vatican in honor of Giovanni Paolo II and, shortly thereafter, he participates in the television studios of RAI 2 in the program "More healthy most beautiful" conduct by Rosanna Lambertucci.

Still in Loreto, on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the Proclamation of Our Lady of Loreto in Patroness of Aeronautical, in 2010, performed the Oratorio Signum Magnum Alma Domus Angelorum a Coetu allata of Maestro Father Giuliano Viabile with the Symphony Orchestra G.Rossini of Pesaro and the Choir of the Holy House of Loreto.

It organizes in San Ginesio, in addition to a "Review of International triennial sacred music" on "The crucifix in the polyphony", now in its tenth edition, the "Musical Meetings of Spring", an annual choral concert, combining culture and tourism, leading to San Ginesio many Italian and foreign choirs, for which constitutes a source of pride to sing in the Auditorium Hall of St. Augustine, an old church converted into Auditorium and became over the years a veritable temple of choral music as well as point reference for the choirs of the entire region Marche. And now in its twelfth edition then the "International Review Polyphonic Giulio Talle", which sees annually in November, performing choirs of different Italian region to honor the beloved figure of the first President of the choir, who died in 1999.

The Choir Bonagiunta has long started with the Philharmonic Choir of Pesaro an intense and fruitful collaboration that led the two choirs to perform, along with various orchestras and under the guidance of renowned directors, in most of works that today's highly sought after and appreciated: the "Carmina Burana" by Carl Orff (Andria, Ravenna, Ascoli Piceno, Faenza, Foligno, Pescara, Castel San Pietro, Imola, Forlì, Pesaro, Sora, Naples, San Ginesio, La Spezia), the "Messa da Requiem" by Giuseppe Verdi (Senigallia, Pesaro, Recanati, San Ginesio), the "Messa di Gloria" by Giacomo Puccini (San Ginesio, Pesaro, Abbey of Casamari -Frosinone), the "Te Deum" by Marc-Antoine Charpentier (Abbey of Casamari-Frosinone ), the "Ninth Symphony" by Ludwig van Beethoven (Bologna, Pesaro, San Ginesio), the "Gloria" and "Magnificat" by Antonio Vivaldi (San Ginesio, Vasto), the "Stabat Mater" by Gioachino Rossini (San Ginesio ), the "Requiem" by G. In spring 2005, the Chorale Bonagiunta was part of the Regional Choir of the A.R.Co.M in the performance of the Missa in C (Coronation) of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Franz Schubert's Magnificat, with the Marche Philharmonic Orchestra (Loreto, Jesi, Macerata, Fermo), and in 2006 the performance of the Requiem D moll KV 626 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart with New Regional Orchestra of Marche "Domenico Alaleona" (Tolentino).

For several years we also started a valuable artistic collaboration between the Chorale Bonagiunta, the Association of New DA.MU.S MUSIC AND THEATRE of Montegiorgio and New Regional Orchestra of Marche, which aims at the realization of the ambitious project to present and disseminate the masterpieces of Italian opera of the nineteenth century, in San Ginesio and in different locations of the Marche, to a wider audience in the form of semi-staged precisely, since the commencement of the works in the traditional forms would be made impossible by the prohibitive costs, as well as the small size of many municipal theaters. By virtue of this collaboration have been repeatedly performed in public Madama Butterfly, La Bohème and Tosca by Giacomo Puccini, La Traviata by Giuseppe Verdi, Cavalleria Rusticana by Pietro Mascagni, Lucia di Lammermoor by Gaetano Donizetti, The Barber of Seville by Gioacchino Rossini and the operetta The Merry Widow by Franz Léhar.

Starting from 2010 have set up a prestigious collaboration with the Conservatory "GB Pergolesi "in Fermo, which led to the execution of the Laudario of Cortona for soloists, chorus and orchestra, in that particular edition of this unique monument of ancient music Italian oversaw Fernando Liuzzi: an important and original musical style, a real novelty in the landscape of choral Marche, which has aroused great interest in the music and the performance of which was crowned with remarkable success in Fermo, Macerata and San Ginesio. In the year 2011 there were two of the important musical events planned as part of this collaboration: the official opening of the academic year of the Conservatory, with a big concert at the Aquila Theatre of Fermo that he intended to also be a "Tribute to Verdi "on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the Unification of Italy, and a series of concerts of sacred music during the Easter season (Camerino, Sanseverino Marche, Fermo and San Ginesio).

It's a founding member of the CHOIR OF EUROPE, an association formed by choirs from different nations of the continent (Italy, Spain, Austria, Slovenia, Switzerland, Denmark, Germany and Sweden), which was performed in 1996, in 1999, in 2002 and in 2005 to San Ginesio in 2000 in Spain and Slovenia in 2006. In June of 2008 he found himself in San Ginesio to take part in the "International Triennial Exhibition of Sacred Music" on "The crucifix in the polyphony."

Within Choral Bonagiunta are extremely vital two youth choirs, the Choir of White Voices and the Choir of Small Chorists; they collaborate with the greater Choir, of whom constitute a valuable natural reservoir, sometimes did Sunday liturgical service in the churches, participating in various school activities, but also play autonomous musical experiences, with performances and exchanges both in Italy and abroad: Prague (Czech Republic, 1995), Pollau (Austria-1997), Llorenc del Penedès (Spain-1998), Esbjerg and Ahrus (Denmark - 1999), Koper (Slovenia - 2000, 2002, 2008).

Further evidences of the important attention has always been paid to young people is made from the successful collaboration put in place for some time by the Choir Bonagiunta with educational institutions of the territory, the Comprehensive School "V.Tortoreto" and the Institute of Higher Education "Alberico Gentili "of San Ginesio. The choir Bonagiunta is committed to their side in the activity of both music education-vocal of young students (specifically school choral groups) and in the organization of cultural and musical events that testify whenever the artistic achievements made, certificates in various capacities and in numerous occasions. Thanks to this collaboration, working well 6 choral groups specifically school, four elementary school (Sant'Angelo in Pontano, Ripe San Ginesio, San Ginesio and Passo San Ginesio), one of the Middle School "Ugo Betti," one of the Lyceum of Higher Education "A.Gentili." If we add the Choirs and Choir higher, you get to number as many as 8 choirs (!) Operating stably at San Ginesio, and inside the orbit of the Choral Bonagiunta, in a demographic reality that does not come with the four thousand residents!

The repertoire available to the Choral Bonagiunta is extremely flexible and varied, since production is inspired by the polyphonic music of the many cultures in Europe, America
and Asia with which the choir came in contact.

However, there are the classical and post-classical polyphony, the Italian popular song, sacred music of all time, the arrangements of pop music, etc..

The maestro Héctor Ulises Passarella, bandoneon soloist in the soundtrack of the movie "The Postman", composed by Luis Bacalov and awarded the Oscar 1996, specially adapted some famous compositions of the popular repertoire rio-platense Bonagiunta for the Chorale, which has performed in a memorable concert held in San Ginesio on August 14, 2004 held by the master uruguayan in quintet.

Linked to their Uruguayan artist is the initiative of the musical association: Festival Tango y Más .... International Tango Festival of Culture and Rio Plata. Born from an intuition of Maestro Passarella, immediately accepted and implemented with enthusiasm by the Choir Bonagiunta, the Festival in August 2007 has seen the light in the first edition, crowned by an extraordinary success with audiences and critics. The splendid achievements have led the Chorale Bonagiunta and the Master Passarella to accomplish for the year 2008 a second edition of the Festival, awarded once again a great success with audiences and critics.
